CFlo participated in a series of Knowledge Exchange Workshops hosted jointly by the GHMC, CCMC and the British High Commission held on 16th and 17th May 2019 at Hyderabad (Taj Deccan, 10 am) and Coimbatore (The Residency Tower, 10 am) respectively (city-specific). The workshops were hosted as a part of the ongoing debate on waste management and circular economy in Chennai, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad where we were featured in the list of dignitaries to grace the occasion and share their valuable inputs on how to improve the solid waste management in the city.

The major objectives of the workshops can be outlined as:

  • To present a draft approach paper on the city’s waste management and seek suggestions and advice from experts and stakeholders present
  • To present case studies from international best practices by experts from the UK and facilitate discussion regarding the challenges faced in solid waste management

The response from the first two workshops (Hyderabad and Coimbatore) triggered a positive and encouraging response among The British High Commissions of New Delhi and Chennai who expressed interest in developing an improved city waste management plan based on international best practices and principles associated with the Circular Economy Model. Moreover, the GCC and the British High Commission finalized the joint hosting of a third Knowledge Exchange Workshop (city-specific) at Chennai on 7th June 2019.

CFlo relished this experience of interacting with industry experts and sharing insights on a subject that needs immediate attention and redressal and looks forward to many more in the future.
